Knock Knock, Who's There? NEW Doors!

How often do you use your doors? Why are we still starting blogs with a SILLY question?!

DOORS BEFORE:

Seriously, if you count how many times you use a door inside your house, you'd probably lose count. Our interior doors were 20 years old and begging us for help (I like to imagine they were asking for help, at least that's what I told Jonathan).

Woodgrain to the rescue! Woodgrain (@wearewoodgrain) is our favorite source for lumber, trim, and now doors. They have a warehouse in Phoenix, which was a quick drive from us, so we picked up 10 doors and got to work!

We worked with Woodgrain for our Game Room makeover, our bedroom accent wall, and at my mom's home for wood accents as well.

Our doors are the 2-Panel Shaker style, in a variety of sizes. They are a nice solid wood (heavier than our old doors) and smooth to the touch. Check out our highlights for SIZING, HINGES, HANDLES, and PAINTING below.

SIZING

We'll be honest—the doors were not a perfect fit on the first try, so we (Jonathan) had to do some cutting down. We owe this to our 20-year-old home, not the doors themselves.

This took the longest because Jonathan had to go edge by edge and trim the doors down on both sides with a table saw.

HINGES

Our doors didn't come with pre-made hinge spots, so here's how we DIYed it!

First, we measured the location of the existing hinges on the door frame. Then we mirrored that measurement onto the door itself so it would be an exact fit.

Jonathan used a Ryobi door hinge template and a router to make the indents for the hinges.

HANDLES

The doors didn't have pre-drilled handle holes, which gave us the option to tailor it to either left/right orientation we wanted.

We used a Milwaukee door lock installation kit and a hole saw to cut out the handles we needed. We went with Viaggio handles and love the modern look!

PAINTING

Jenna used a Wagner FLEXiO3500 Sprayer to paint all 10 doors in the garage!

We chose a white color (Swiss Coffee by Valspar) in Eggshell to match the existing doors we have. The doors came primed white, so we figured that if one of our toddlers scratched or messed up the door, we wanted to pick the same color as the primed color underneath.

If we had chosen a taupe/ or contrast color, we'd most likely have to touch up more often. Plus, the all-white look makes the hallway more cohesive and helps the eye see the doors as one whole! We do plan to paint one of our kid's inside doors to match their room.

The paint went on smoothly and Jonathan then installed them onto the original hinges we owned. Then he installed the door handles and now we have BRAND NEW DOORS!

IN CONCLUSION

THANK YOU WOODGRAIN!

This process took a bit longer than expected because of our kids, our schedules, and our other projects we were working on, but it was worth it! We are sooo happy with the finished look and how it makes our home feel way more updated.

It took about 2-3 months, but if someone wanted to complete this in one weekend or two they totally could (just send the kids away and stock up on caffeine!)
