DIY Bathroom Makeover in 3 Days!

One of the first projects we did when we moved to AZ in 2018 was paint our home's interior from tan/yellow to white.

THEN I took one look at our main bathroom area and knew I wanted to revamp it.

Bathroom Checklist:

Remove giant mirror
Replace light fixtures
Replace faucets
Paint cabinets
Replace medicine cabinet

We had our work cut out for us! We found the faucets and light fixtures at Home Depot and the mirrors at Target.

OUR DIY
First, Jonathan pulled off the giant mirror (by himself). He went all around the edges and pried it little by little, when he pulled it off there were a few larger wall chunks that came off (you can see in this pic where they were)

He used spackling paste to patch up the bigger areas. Tearing the mirror off didn't do as much damage as I thought it would. The mirror left behind some black tar-like glue, so we had to scrape that off carefully first and then sand some parts down.

This is what it looked like after we had the wall painted and the new lights installed:

Then I got to work painting! I taped off edges, lightly sanded everything, took off the cabinets and hinges, and rolled paint onto the main frame.

Our paint color is Boudoir Black (cue my giggles) and it's a Satin finish. I was told to use Satin for cabinets because it wipes off easily, but other sheens are probably fine too!

The hardest part was waiting for each coat to dry before flipping the cabinet over. I had them propped up  (barely). Now when we paint we use Dixie cups or a box to avoid putting the cabinet right onto the floor. I did probably 3-4 coats because I wanted a smooth finish!

Now we would use our paint sprayer, but at the beginning we didn't have all the tools we do now.

It all came together! We also switched out our towel bar and toilet paper holder (switched to all black accents).

We kept the existing counter because this was our first renovation and we didn't want to tear everything out. The only downside to this vanity is no drawers or shelves, so everything is sort of crammed underneath with bins or baskets to organize them.

One day we may change the bath/shower since it's pretty outdated, and I want to add some trim to that bathroom window! For now, we'll enjoy it and keep daydreaming.
